My typical Saturdays lately

OmG... just watched the SNL skit again where Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley are competing for the last Chippendales spot. That is still one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Wish SNL was as funny now as it was in the 90's.

In the few spare moments I can find on weekends, with all the renovations going on, I've been reading Nikki Sixx' book, "The Heroin Diaries." Damn. One of the commentaries mentions that personal hygiene is one of the first things to go when a person is addicted to heroin. Given Nikki's entry in mid-March 1987, about taking a dump and noticing again that he still hasn't ordered any toilet paper (first mention of it is 8 days earlier), I would say that is an understatement. Gross!

So, about the renovations. This weekend's project is a continuation of last weekend's -- the hallway bathroom -- which HAS to be finished by this coming Friday, when my aunt from San Antonio arrives for a weekend visit. Otherwise, she would have to go thru our bedroom every time she needed to use the potty, brush her teeth, or shower. We've had a couple of overnight guests already, and that just sucks. Last weekend, we bought the tiles and slate and laid the floor. We got no further because it turns out the grout between the tiles had to cure for 48 t 072 hours before we could seal it.

This weekend, John has installed the shower drain and plumbing, poured the cement base, placed the liner, and framed up the half walls and the bench for the shower. Tomorrow morning, once the last layer of cement is fully set, we start tiling the walls in the shower and finishing up the drywalling on the other walls. I now know way too much about how to accomplish all these activities. We made impressive progress today, but there is still a long way to go, since we gutted the room and started over. I still have to pick a color of paint for the normal walls that will go with the tile.

My condo still hasn't sold, but got an increase in look-sees since I made it available for lease as well. I think that's what I prefer -- to keep it and rent it out, since I was coerced into this house and never really wanted to move away from River Oaks Gardens in the first place.
